In the session held on the 13th of October 2007 the activity of making and decorating candles and lamps continued as the items made by the children in the previous session were greatly appreciated. So the volunteers and children once again decorated lamps, candles and idols of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Laxmi. And by the end of the session a large number of beautifully painted diyas, lamps and candles stood on the shelves of the newsroom. The collection looked so attractive that the volunteers decided to put up a small Sadbhavna stall in the Phase 1 canteen, before Diwali. |

After the enjoyable creative activity began the literacy activity. With participation of volunteers in huge numbers the motto for the activity was, ‘Each One Teach One’. The attempt at every session is that each child at Sadbhavna gets personal attention and care. Volunteers reviewed the home assignments given to the children in the previous sessions and also tracked their performance at school during the past month. We hope that the efforts put in by our volunteers get reflected in the children’s performance at school. Also, the children exchanged books from the library and were given material for painting Diwali cards at home.
The session ended with a festive meal of puris, aloo and halwa prepared by Kanan’s staff.
A Ray of Hope
In a short span of one year Sadbhavna has been able to establish itself as a trusted organization. Chandrabhan has been working with Newgen as an electrician for more than a decade. Though he had been aware of Sadbhavna since its inception it was only after seeing the transformation in his colleagues’ children, who were attending our sessions regularly, that he decided to send his kids to the Sadbhavna programme.
Chandrabhan’s daughter Neelam and son Rohit have started attending Sadbhavna sessions regularly and are very enthusiastic about its activities. Sixteen-year-old Neelam is studying in the 11th standard and is a confident and bright student. Her interest in studies suggests that given the right coaching she has the potential to excel. She participated in the fancy dress competition held during NEWS Week. Though she was new to Sadbhavna, the confidence level displayed by Neelam is appreciable. We are lucky to have her with us.
Rohit is 10 years of age and studies in the 4th standard. Like his sister Rohit also seems to be a promising child with an inclination towards learning and studying. Though a bit shy Rohit played Lord Krishna in the fancy dress competition and was appreciated. We welcome Neelam and Rohit to our Sadbhavna family.
Latest News : Sadbhavna managed to sell candles and lamps worth Rs.1,000. The money will go to the Sadbhavna Fund. Thank you Newgenites for making the activity a success.
